FAQs for Clients

Q. What is the screening process you undertake on your nannies and babysitters?

A. All our nannies/sitters have been interviewed by one of our consultants in a face to face, Skype or phone interview, candidates will hold current police check, senior or CPR first aid certificate, Working with Children Check or hold a Blue Card. They will have relevant child related experience and/or childcare qualifications with reference checks that have been personally conducted by one of our consultants. We pride ourselves in providing our families with the highest calibre of professional nannies/sitters.

Q. Will I get the same babysitter every time I book?

A. You are able to request a certain babysitter, by adding the babysitters name in special requests, or you can email through to your regional office and put through a request. We will always let the sitter know that you have requested them and if they are unable to accept the booking, then it will be made available to others as sometimes the requested sitter may not always be available.

Q. Do I get a refund if you can’t find a babysitter?

A. Yes - if Rockmybaby is unable to place a babysitter with your booking, your agency fee is fully refundable. Once confirmation of a sitter is made the booking fee is non-refundable. Also view our Terms & Conditions page in regards to refunds.

Q. How many children can you have with one babysitter?

A. We have a maximum of four children per babysitter - RMB consultants at their discretion may request that more than one babysitter is required for reasons of safety and wellbeing of the children. For example if a client/s booked one babysitter for four children under the age of three - this would require two babysitters.

Q. Do we have to pay fuel charges?

A. If you expect your nanny/sitter to use her vehicle to transport children, you will be charged a rate of $0.74 per km by the nanny/sitter at the end of the job.

Q. What are the difference in prices between Nannies and babysitters?

A. Please view our pricing page for the hourly rates of our babysitters in your area. Nanny rates are negotiable between you and the nannies at the time of the interview, unless you have advertised your position as a non-negotiable flat rate.

Q. Does it cost anything to register our nanny request on the website?

A. No, there are no upfront fees for registering your nanny request. Our placement fees are applicable when employment is offered to one of our nannies - please view our pricing page to view all our placement fees.

Q. How long can the recruitment process take?

A. Each nanny request is unique according to your location and the availability of our nannies. Once your request has been received it will get posted on our nanny jobs board and emailed out to all our screened nannies on the database. We will then forward you the resumes of the nannies that would like to be considered for your position. This process can take anywhere between 1 - 2 days or a few weeks.

Q. What insurance will I need?

A. All families that employ a nanny will need to have Domestic Workers Compensation Insurance NSW QLD VIC WA TAS SA (consult your Insurance Broker). You may wish to ensure your nanny holds her own insurance through Nanny Sure or Altiora  to cover you in situations outside of your home and property.

Q. What are our obligations and responsibilities as an employer?

A. All families that employ a nanny have to comply with the ATO regulations in regards to employees. You will need to:

  • Register for PAYG Withholding.
  • Register your employees Tax File Number with the ATO
  • Deduct PAYG Withholding and add 9.25% superannuation. NB: Superannuation is an obligation when a nanny works more than 30 hours per week.

As the contract of employment is between a family and a Nanny, we act as a facilitator to ensure both parties are happy and that the best outcome is arrived at. Rockmybaby follows the recruitment process through and can offer Payroll services as well all templates/Information that are required for you to employ a Nanny. Also view our client obligations on our Terms & Conditions page.

Q. What is registered child care?

A. It is child care provided by grandparents or other relatives, friends or nannies who are registered as carers with the Australian Government’s Department of Human Services. You and your partner need to be working or looking for work, training, or studying to get registered care. There are some exemptions. Please view the information fact sheet to find out about registered care.

Q. What additional housekeeping duties can we ask the nanny to do?

A. Normally nannies are expected to keep all children’s rooms and living areas clean and tidy, children’s laundry, change linen and organise children meals. At the time of the interview discuss with the nanny what extra duties you are interested in the nanny performing. At this stage you have clearly outlined what is required of the position and if the nanny is happy to include in her contract.
